We’re back with the second installment of our featured Indian condiments - The tamarind & mint Chutney. Mint with tamarind is a delicious combination as you can taste the sour flavor of tamarind and aromatic mint to balance it. It is a perfect pair that goes really well with Indian snacks like Samosa, fritters, chaat, and other fried snacks. 


Do you know the best part? It requires no cooking. Yes! You can prepare this delicious Indian side dip in few minutes without having to cook. The tangy flavor that comes due to tamarind makes it everyone’s favorite whether kids or adults. So, let’s start with the recipe.


Ingredients Required 


You don’t need a huge list of ingredients to make this chutney. Just a few ingredients that all of us have in our pantry, except tamarind, and you’re all set. To shop the tamarind pulp, you can go to any nearby Indian grocer and get your jar of goodness. 


Let’s continue checking the ingredients you need to make this spicy and tangy sauce.


  • 2 cups of fresh mint leave that you need for the freshness in the chutney.

  • ½ cup of thick tamarind paste to give sour flavor to the sauce.

  • 2-3 green chilies that add spiciness to it.

  • 2-3 garlic cloves (optional) which can be an additional punch of flavor to the chutney.

  • ½ tbsp grated ginger (optional)

  • ½ cup water to balance the consistency of chutney.

  • Salt balances all the sour and sweet flavors.


Preparation 


  1. First, take a blender and put fresh mint leaves and green chilies into it (You may also add garlic and ginger if you’re going to add them into the chutney).

  2. Add the salt and water into the jar and blend them to make a coarse paste. 

  3. Once you get the paste, pour the tamarind paste into the jar and give it a nice mix. 

  4. Now, transfer the chutney into a bowl and garnish it with a few mint leaves. Your tamarind and mint chutney is ready to have.
